Who Was Lucy Pruett?
Born in West
Virginia in 1925, Frances Lucille Garten dedicated her life to Christ at the age
of 13 after hearing a missionary from Puerto Rico speak.
In 1944, she married Dennis Derwood Pruett, and together they dreamed of pioneering medical missions in Africa. Having graduated from medical school in 1956, Dennis and family set sail for Southern Rhodesia (today known as Zimbabwe) where he and Lucy served as missionaries for 17 years.
In addition to being a housewife and mother of four children, Lucy designed and assisted in the building of two major hospitals which today remain a beacon of hope to thousands of ill in Zimbabwe, Active in missions until her ultimate death at age of 63, her final dream remained unfulfilled...that being to build a children's home in Zimbabwe. Today, with the ever increasing death rate from AIDS, more children are becoming homeless and unwanted. The need is more dramatic than ever.
A book entitled "Doves on my Roof" has been written by Denise
Hayes. It is an intimate portrait of her mother, Lucy Pruett. It
chronicles Lucy's ancestry, life and journeys to Africa and finally, heaven. All
proceeds from the book go towards the LPTCC.
